Consulting

Dr Morris sees his role as not only helping you to achieve your aims, but also to ensure that you and your baby are delivered in the safest possible way.  Pregnancy is associated with many changes to your body and lifestyle, for which you will receive information and ‘helpful advice’. There are many valuable sources of information, including a range of books in the rooms for your perusal, and a monthly newsletter discussing issues in pregnancy. Antenatal classes will help orientate you to the hospital and maternity unit, and are a valuable way to assist you and your partner in preparing for the birth of your baby and parenthood.

If you have any questions it is often helpful to write them down and discuss them at your antenatal visits. Partners are more than welcome to accompany you at these visits.

Appointments can be made via telephone with secretaries Kylie and Phoebe, or with midwife Alexis. You may also register to become a patient online from the right hand menu. The rooms are open five days a weeks from 8am.

Attending deliveries is a priority for Dr Morris, and as such, it is recommended that you phone the rooms prior to your initial consultation to check if appointments are running to schedule.

The first visit includes taking a medical history, dating ultrasound, examinations and discussions in relation to the pregnancy. Please bring a letter of referral from your GP or current doctor plus any test results you may have. Consultations thereafter are four weekly until twenty-eight weeks, then fortnightly until thirty-six weeks and then weekly until birth.

In addition, some mothers choose to have a screening test for Down Syndrome, a chromosomal disorder that sometimes occurs. Should you choose to have this test, an ultrasound called a Nuchal Translucency Scan is recommended at about 12 weeks. This test clarifies the risk of Down Syndrome. If you are found to be at high risk, you may choose to have further diagnostic investigations such as chorionic villus sampling (CVS) or amniocentesis. Some women choose to go straight to a diagnostic investigation. Dr Morris is happy to discuss this option with you.

If an urgent appointment is required at any time, please contact the rooms and an appointment will be made for you on the same day.
